DIY Hanging Basket with Leather Straps
Nastja from the YouTube channel DIY Eule has made a floating home for our Pink Kisses®: a hanging basket made of a planter and leather straps. The DIY is a decoration idea that you can use to showcase the mini carnations in your home but a homemade hanging basket is also a great gift that you can personalise easily.
What You Need
List
From our point of view, the stars of the hanging basket are of course the Pink Kisses®. But the effect of the hanging basket depends mainly on the planter. You are free to choose, it can also be a flea market find that you just like the shape of or an old bowl from which the decoration has flaked off. All you have to do is choose the right colour for the base so that your work of art lasts a long time.
Nastja chose a clay pot – it has a hole in the bottom, so you need to put a foil or a saucer under the plant so that the water doesn’t run into your living room!
You’ll need:
- A planter of your choice in a size that matches the plant’s pot.
- Paint, e.g. matt acrylic paint in pink and white as used here.
- A paintbrush
- Two leather straps of the same length, approx. 100 cm long and 1.3 cm wide
- A pair of hole punch pliers
- A so-called sex bolt, 5 mm high
- A screwdriver for the sex bolt
- Tear-proof string, 1 m
- A sturdy hook or ring for hanging up your basket
- If necessary, a piece of foil or a saucer to seal the hole in the planter.
- Pink Kisses®
Painting the Flowerpot
Description
First paint the flowerpot. You can let your imagination run wild here. Nastja mixed some white acrylic paint to make a nice grey. She painted the upper part of the pot with it and later added some pink colour to the lower part. Then let it dry.
Joining the Leather Straps
Description
Find the middle of the two leather straps and punch a hole for the sex bolt. Place the two straps on top of each other at a right angle and attach the sex bolt. Use a screwdriver to tighten it.
Punch the Ends
Description
Now punch a hole in all four leather straps close to and at the same distance from their ends.
Attach the Cord
Description
Cut the tear-proof cord and thread it through the holes so that you connect the straps.
Finish up
Description
Knot the ends together so that you can tie the hook or ring in the middle of the string. If you have chosen a pot with a hole in the bottom, put some foil or a saucer in the pot. Now all you have to do is put the Pink Kisses® in the pot and you can hang up your homemade hanging basket.
